4.5LB Rounding Hammer (Special)

CA$500.00

This rounding hammer has all the normal attributes of the classic rounding hammer that I offer for order, but what sets this one apart is some nuances in the aesthetic proportions. Most notable is the narrowness of the cheeks. Some people (including myself) really like the look of hammers like this, however I rarely make them because they require much more effort and forging time. This was a personal (therefore “used”) hammer of mine, but I have multiple hammers like this, so I decided to refinish this one by redrifting the eye, reheat-treating the head, and fitting a new handle, and put it up for sale. 4.5 Pounds

Here’s the description from a normal Classic Rounding Hammer:

Forged from 1045 carbon steel with a custom 14 inch hickory handle. These are similar to what Brian Brazeal and Alec Steele forge. The round face is ground like a squashed ball, with the radius decreasing toward the edge of the face. The flat face has some nuanced crowning in a couple different ways to use it for flattening, chopping, and spreading. The flat face has a square grind, with the corners taken off. Please contact for questions, or check out the “FAQ” page.

Alec Steele on the rounding hammer:

The Classic Rounding hammer, popularized and made famous through Brian Brazeal's teachings, has become known worldwide as the most versatile hammer available. The many dies created by tilting the hammer head in certain ways means you can manipulate the steel with such great precision, control, and ease, that you will rarely need to use another hammer. Even for the widest of lateral draws, simply tilting the hammer to reduce your surface area of contact will mean you will move your steel faster and cleaner than with any other hammer.
