This drift is for sizing the eye on small axes or hatchets up to 2.5 pounds. It is made of H13 steel which is an air hardening tool steel and is best hit with a softer hammer to avoid chipping. H13 is the most resilient steel for hot-working applications (that I have access too). The teardrop profile was forged in a closed-die under the steam hammer.
